Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yaros

**Spoiler Warning**

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros follows Violet as she goes through the infamous and dangerous Dragon Rider school.  There, she learns more about the war her country is fighting and her wing leader, the dark and mysterious Xaden.

Going into this book, I was unsure if I was going to like it.  People have seemed to really like it or really hate it.
Positives:
I found the plot to be interesting and entertaining.  I know it is full of tropes but it still captivated me and I burned through it in a couple of days.  I really enjoyed the witty banter between Violet and Xaden as well as with her dragon.

I haven't read many books with dragons, but I did enjoy how they were written.  I felt that they were a ruthless combination between the dragons in Eragon and the dragons in the Priory of the Orange Tree.  The lore behind the dragons was interesting as well.

Negatives:
I hate how they portrayed Violet's size.  Her frailty was only a problem when convenient and, as someone who is also petite, it was annoying.  She breaks bones all the time but can be roughed around by a guy? Please, make it make sense.  Xaden tours over her and then suddenly, it's like there is no height different.  Just make up your mind please.

I disliked how Dain's character seemed to change.  The relationship between Violet and Xaden was definitely more of an infatuation rather than love.  Their bond through their dragons was a little too convenient and I had a major eye roll moment.

This book mostly read like YA except for the spice.  These scenes were unneeded, added nothing to the story and kind of degraded the integrity of the book.  Some of the random commands were just uncomfortable and seemed to be out of context as well.
Overall
I give this book 4 stars.  It had some major flaws, but I really enjoyed it.  I had read it on my kindle since I wasn't sure if I would like it and now, I want to add it to my library.  I wouldn't say it's a great book, but it was fun and that's what I look for when I read.
